Stockholm CardIt immediately seems like a taunting oxymoron: budget Stockholm. The capital city of Sweden is notoriously expensive, one of the most expensive in the world. Stockholm is anything but cheap, and for those on a budget (which seems as if it should be virtually anybody who travels to Stockholm), good deals on anything, be it food, drinks, admission – you name it – are welcome. I myself found out the hard way on a recent trip through Stockholm just how exorbitant everything is, and I hail from New York City, which is not so friendly on the pocket itself.

So, how can a traveler make the most of Stockholm, without needing to file for bankruptcy after?

The best option that I found is the Stockholm Card, a simple item that looks like a credit card offered by the Stockholm Tourism board. For a flat fee, you obtain the card and use it to gain free entry to many different attractions, or receive a substantial discount on some other items. Included in the Stockholm Card is access to public transportation around Stockholm. See the tabbed list below for all the free and discounted offerings with the Stockholm Card. And for icing on the cake, a map with all the card’s listings is included.
