Jūrmala is a resort town in Latvia, about 25 km (16 mi) west of Riga, the capital. With its prime location on the Baltic coast, it is a popular summer destination for many people from Riga and beyond, especially Russians. I went there in the middle of October, so the visiting season was already through, yet there were still many people walking about and running the local shops.
Jūrmala has 33 km (21 mi) of white sand along the Baltic Sea, but part of the beauty is walking through the town from the train station. The path through the wooded areas offers some great views of several Russian- and Baltic-style homes.
